Named after the chemist Friedlieb Ferdinand Runge and located in the heart of the old town in Linz (Altstadt 5), Friedlieb und Töchter is one of the new and cosy modern coffee shops that have opened during the last year in Linz. Some years ago, there were only old, dusty cafés with grumpy waiters and very old school pastries and coffees. These were mostly populated by old people, and the younger Linz inhabitants urgently needed some more nice places to spend an afternoon with a good cup of coffee or tea.
The more everyone was excited when two girls started to refurbish a tiny old bakery shop in an old house. Soon it was clear that the new coffee shop will be modern, cosy and stylish. The opening was at the end of November 2014 and even if they only started their test weeks, it was always crowded. The cosy atmosphere thanks to the Scandinavian interior, mixed with high quality coffee and drinks and their home made, incredibly tasty cakes (legendary: chocolate-raspberry-cheesecake) was exactly what Linz missed. They integrate decoration objects of designers from Linz and Upper Austria, they are kid-friendly and the girls are always smiling and up for a little talk. Many people take their coffee or sweets (some of them even vegan) with them, but taking a break in the little living room is definitely something you should consider whenever you are in Linz. I personally like the place best when it’s raining or winter outside – because then it is like a little warm island in the storm.
